The Melting Pot, Multicultural Stew, and the Lone Wolf

Everyone knows what culture is but do we really know how it works? This session will examine the social construct of race, culture, and color in order to understand the interplay of all of these in our world today. More importantly, the session will discuss ways to transcend these concepts to strengthen our communities and our shared humanity.

Upon completion of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the cultural worldview that influences Native humor
  • Understand the nuances of humor in building relationships
  • Navigate interpersonal relationships through cultural awareness

Who should attend: Mental health professionals, social workers, addiction counselors, residential treatment professionals, youth group home professionals, juvenile justice professionals, school counselors, service providers, non-profit leaders, and others.

Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.

The Cultural Competency Workshop Series is a service of SPRC for professionals in the Bismarck-Mandan area working with and in American Indian populations. CEUs are provided where possible.
