The Cultural & Spiritual Events Community Engagement Team develops and hosts events that feature the diverse cultures and ethnicities in the Bismarck-Mandan area, with a particular emphasis on Native cultures.

The Cultural & Spiritual Events CET was created because members of the local American Indian community wanted more community events that highlight the presence of American Indians in the cities. People recalled one year in particular, when the United Tribes Technical College Parade of Champions combined with the Folkfest parade. This event featuring both Native and non-Native community members celebrating together was the motivation for a Community Engagement Team that specifically fosters more integration of Native people into the local community.

Some of the events developed by the Cultural & Spiritual Events Team:
  • Organizing the 2016 Armed Forces Day Parade in Bismarck-Mandan
  • Hosting a Community Christmas Party with food, gifts, and a visit from Santa Claus
  • Sponsoring monthly Movie Nights at local venues, free to the public
  • Developing a Digital Storytelling Workshop

Does the Cultural & Spiritual Events CET sound like your thing? Join the Team and help plan community events! You do not need any expertise, education, experience or background to serve on a CET— just a commitment to Native people and causes.

Community Engagement Teams

Community Engagement Teams at the Sacred Pipe Resource Center are supported by a Community Innovation Grant from the the Bush Foundation in partnership with North Dakota Consensus Council. Topic areas are open but will be data-driven. Each CET is required to develop a written plan and to partner with a local community-based agency or organization, such as a civic group, business, non-profit, or spiritual organization. CETs are provided with financial and administrative support to develop their plans.
