Sobriety & Social Connection: Native Views of Addiction & Helping
This session will examine some of the past and current views of addiction and its impact in Native American communities. The session will examine some of the successes and failures of interventions and how understanding cultural worldviews helps build positive practice.
Upon completion of this session, participants will:
- Understand the cultural worldview that influences Native humor
- Understand the nuances of humor in building relationships
- Navigate interpersonal relationships through cultural awareness
Who should attend: Mental health professionals, social workers, addiction counselors, residential treatment professionals, youth group home professionals, juvenile justice professionals, school counselors, service providers, non-profit leaders, and others.
Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
